Sorry but you are going to review the adaptation of a classic novel to tv, I do think it would help to value your review from if you’d read the book. Whilst this series, in my opinion has humour and drama of a WW2 film, it unfortunately totally lacks the tone, the tempo and more important crazy scary and ridiculously absurd humour of the novel or even the 1970 film that these characters and plot deserve. I have not so eagerly wanted to see a successfully adaptation of any novel more, and was sadly disappointed by this polite and nice attempt. If you get the chance, listen to the audiobook narrated by Trevor White which is the best interpretation of Catch22 i have heard / seen to date.
Guys!! Read the book too! It gives you more closure 🙂
Who like the ending?
The Alan Arkin movie is brilliant! This mini-series is… meh
I read the book twice 25 years ago. the first 60 pages are the hardest.
The message of this movie is even more relevant today, with our perpetual wars for corporate profit. The United States has truly become M&M Enterprises.
I really like this new adaptation, but although this version is much truer to the book, I think the 70s movie did a better job of capturing the tone and spirit of the novel. It also did a better job of balancing the humor and horror, often containing both in the same scene. Unfortunately, Mike Nichols had to cut a LOT of scenes from the movie to get it down to a decent movie run time (a couple of characters were also entirely cut due to bad acting, including Paul Simon's cameo. Paul was so pissed off that it led to the break-up of Simon & Garfunkle, and Simon resented Garfunkle's movie career for years.).
It's really good, I enjoyed every minute
Watch the original movie, if you don't read the novel.
how could you review this without reading the book. i don't get it.
they didnt explain where did Clara disapear.
If you know and love the book, I cannot understand why anyone would enjoy this watered down, sterilized travesty of a TV series. The central character here is a petulant, namby pamby narcissist, whereas the real Yossarian is a gritty, batshit crazy, semi-genius anti-hero. there is no sense of the madness which pervades the novel at all levels. No effort was made to round out any characters, the ones who were chosen were weak shadows of what was expected. (An honourable exception may be the Colonel Cathcart character) The series was devoid of tension, and worst of all, the comedy was entirely lost.
A thousand curses rest on the head of George Clooney for this garbage. With the resources available to him, this series is a shameful failure. A sanitized, unadventurous, weak as sheep piss abortion of an attempt. May the dung of a thousand camels fall upon him.
the show was ok, I didnt like yoyo being a coward. Also some unanswered questions and poor writing….like for one, what happened to Major Coverley? He went missing and they never mentioned it again….Also the scene where Mcwatt is showing off in the plane and kills Kid Sampson? Really? A trained pilot acting like an immature teenager flying a plane really low? He just accidentally flew it too low? I loved the comedy, wonderful acting….i give the show 7/10
It's really strange watching a kid explain a TV series of a time he never knew, about a take off on a movie that represented some political questions in the 60's and 70's ; that is transposed from a book by and author who actually never intended to sell a book. Watching the kid is a funny as watching the movie. No concept of reality.Facts are in the military your not thinking of the politics or the military industrial complex or all the special civilian contractors who are actually "producing " the war, your just trying to survive and seeing that none of the above gives a damn if you do – is in fact the real catch 22.
ive ays said that if i could go back in time i would go back to WW2 just to fly unboard one if this bomber missions idk call me weird but theirs just something about flying the b-29, b-25, or even the liberator that just makes me complete. perhaps in my past life i was a bomber pilot or even fighter pilot during WW2
this is a great short series goddam digidy dog i felt so much through this show that in the end i just dont know what to say but "release"
Your such a pup and not to bright. Catch 22 is one of the most powerful anti-war fikm and novel ever made.
Loved catch 22, although was a bit too gorey in some parts for me…
Great show 😀
All the stuff from the book that was there was amazing. The problem I have, is that large chunks of the book were cut out to the detriment of Yosarrian's character, and the story as a whole. Maybe those huge swaths they cut out could have been considered too absurd, critical, or controversial still, but after the excitement of seeing one of my all time favorite novels coming to a streaming platform, I end up feeling cheated.
Each character seems to be representing a bigher picture of war , specifically and (obviously) world war two. Each is a metaphor of war or the bueraccy surrounded..
Christopher Abbott has been easily one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood for a bit now and it’s awesome to see him get more recognition. Just finished this series and loved it. If you guys want another great Chris performance and a good cry watch “James White” on Netflix
I loved it. Waiting for the sequel Closing Time.
awesome show
Personally loved this, it was amazing
liked it, but could've been better without the explicit nudity, and a less visual death of kid Sampson. but otherwise, i loved it
Great show Great book
Do you think there will be a season 2
I have gotten 4 episodes in and I quit. This is not faithful to the book at all – it makes Yossarian a much crappier individual. Most of what I have seen isn't in the book and most of the book isn't on the screen. It isn't an easy novel to bring to the screen but they really missed the mark in my opinoon.
I didn't know it was going to be funny at all. I expected a darker mood, but then all characters had way too light mood for the situation they were in and some were really silly. Then I had to check the category, which was "Comedy, crime, drama". Ok, if I knew it was comedy I would't see it, cause very seldom comedy fit into a war situation. The Mash series are an exception. But I've seen just 2 episodes yet of Catch-22 and I haven't given up yet. I hope they stop joking around that much and face the gravity of the situation, and survive as heroes.
The guy who played Yossarian was stellar, but I'm bummed a lot of the jokes and dark humor did not translate onto the screen due to the lack of narration. I also wasn't stoked about the loss of a lot of the nonlinear story telling, but all in all it was well produced and does a great job of following the overarching story-line! 6.5/10
read the book, its great
